Variety is the spice of life and how you start your day may be different from others but suit you just fine. If you find that you're not getting a really good start to your day, we have some super suggestions to switch it up!
- Exercise. Morning person or not, there's something to be said for getting your exercise at the beginning of the day rather than at the end.
- Nutrition. Regardless if you do or do not believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, attention to what you put into your mouth may determine the type of day you have.
- Meditation. Meditation is many things to many people. Upon wakening it is the most important part of some people's day.
This can take many different forms: silence, specific prayers and giving gratitude. It can also be thoughts about your day, creating a positive picture in your mind. Yoga is also meditative. If you practice yoga you can kill two birds with one stone: meditation and exercise. If you use yoga, please share your method with our readers on Facebook.
Nutrition
Starting your day with a healthy breakfast is thought to be the best way to stay on a nutritionally balanced diet the whole day. Through consciousness of what you are feeding your body you determine what you want to feed it and how you want to feel. Good breakfast choices include:
- Blending a fresh smoothie using your favorite fruits, berries, vegetables and juice or yogurt. You can go online to discover what nutrients and minerals each one is known for and then customize your own shake!
- Steel cut oatmeal with berries, nuts and a little brown sugar. You can include seeds such as flax and chia as well. If you cook up a small to medium sized batch you will have the next day's breakfast prepared in advance.
- Whole grain toast with natural organic peanut butter and banana. This is a filling and satisfying meal that can be wrapped up and, if you're pressed for time, brown bagged until you get to the office to enjoy it!
Depending on your situation, anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour or more gives you the boost that you need to feel great the whole day. You can walk, jog, run or swim: take a Pilates or spinning class: use the elliptical trainer and then lift some weights. Or as previously mentioned, you can do some yoga and feel good physically as well as spiritually.
