Maybe you weren't thinking about the possibility of ever moving it when you purchased your prairie dog or naked mole rat. Now you're moving to a new home, and transporting your pet is unlike moving with a cat or a dog. Are you flying? Check with your airline and depending on the regulations of the company and what kind of pet you have, you may be able to take your animal with you! If you're driving, take your pet in the car. Not sure how you're going to do either of those things? We'll tell you!
Hopefully by now, you've found movers who you trust to move you. If you haven't already done so, check out our Moving Squad testimonials for reviews from actual customers who've had some experience with our team of movers. It should make your choice easy. Finding a moving company is the tough part, now you just have to move and take your pets along with you!
Spiders, Insects and Snakes
Your pets may be a little girl's nightmare, but unfortunately, they're also among the hardest pets to move. You would pack up a snake the same as you would any other reptile, but it can get tricky after that. Check with your state because many have regulations relating to the import of snakes and the majority of overnight carriers will only accept them under a certain size. Only a few airlines will accept snakes so make sure to call around before you make reservations to find out who will accept your pet and what, if any, regulations there are.
Your spiders and insects are actually packed in the same way as a snake would be except for the addition of a paper bag. Place your pet in a plastic container with small air holes in the top, and moisten a few paper towels below and above the animal. Close the container and make sure it's sealed with tape before you place it in a padded shipping box. Are you shipping by overnight post? Make sure you check which carriers accept insects and spiders.
Monkeys
Moving these kinds of pets is actually most similar to how you would move a dog or a cat. Keep your monkey in its kennel if you're driving. If you've decided to fly, monkeys are actually relatively easy to move by air. If you follow whatever the airline's guidelines are for a cat or a dog, they usually apply to your monkey as well. Be careful though. Some states have laws against owning monkeys. What kind of monkey is it? The types of monkeys that are illegal to own vary depending on where you go. Monkeys also hate moving because they like their habitat to remain the same, so be conscious of how your pet is acting and soothe your monkey appropriately.
