If you have young kids or even if you're a big kid yourself, everyone loves a tree house. Whether you've recently moved into a home or want to construct your arbor abode in a home you relocated to over a decade ago, a tree house is a great idea. If you've ever wondered how you could spend more time with the family and give them something to have some fun in that will last through the ages, why not build a tree house? We have the simple steps for you here that will help you finish construction in no time!
Check Out Your Trees
To build the ultimate tree house, you'll need the ultimate tree. Make sure the base is thick and sturdy enough to build upon and check out the branches as well. The ideal tree for you and your family should have branches that are able to support plenty of weight and grow horizontally. It’s fine to have a few thinner branches here and there but make sure you have a good handful of a larger, thicker variety. Your tree must also have roots that grow deep into the ground and it's obviously important that the tree be strong and alive. Be sure to also check for any diseases or parasites on the trunk that have the potential to weaken it as well.
Plan Well
Think of your tree house as an actual home. There are measurements and safety precautions that need to be taken just like any other living space. Your plan should be as accurate as possible and you may want to invest in some graph paper. Draw it out using the real measurements of the tree and try to plan for every inch of the space. By sketching out what you want your tree house to look like, you will avoid any disappointment you could have if the idea didn't work as well in your head.
Start Building
Once you have a tree and a good idea of what you want your house to look like, begin to construct! Stick a rope ladder in the tree so that you're able to climb it and sit in the branches while you work. You may even want to nail some boards across two close branches and create a platform for yourself. Continue adding boards around the edges so that you create a railing, then attach a plastic tarp to the trunk and make sure it's angled to the side of the railing so that it makes a roof. Add some personal touches like furniture and you've made your first tree house!
