Are the Kids Gone and Moved Out? Here’s How to Use that Space!

The kids have moved on and you probably should, too. Whether your children are in college or living on their own with a spouse already, you may feel like it’s about time to change up the room from a teenage hideaway to a space you can use. You can only keep the room as it was when your children lived with you for so long! Don’t worry. You don’t have to throw away their favorite pillow or get rid of their stuffed animal on the bed, but it’s about time this room got some use out of it from someone who’s still living in the home. Hopefully, you had a look at our Moving Squad testimonials before your child moved out. We’ll always give you nothing but superior service when you move, and now we want to help you reinvent that extra room as well!

Clean Up a Little
How long has it been since your child has lived in that space? Does he or she even miss the things that are still in it? It’s probably safe to toss things like old, forgotten posters or clothes you know won’t be worn again. Before you go any farther though, it’s probably a good idea to check with your child about what can be thrown away. You might think there is zero significance in some of these items, but he or she might think otherwise.

Where to Put It All
In an attempt to clear away your child’s things, there’s a good chance you’ve asked for permission to throw many items away but your child simply can’t part with them. Rather than scrapping your idea of an extra room in your home, think about where you can put these things. There’s a good chance your child doesn’t have room if he or she is living in a dorm or just starting out in a small home with a spouse. Do you have a basement or an attic that you’d be able to store these items in? If not, explore your storage options! Check out local storage facilities near you. It may be your best option if you think your child will have the available space in a reasonable amount of time. And you can still have your room!

What Kind of Room Do You Need?
The world (the house) is your oyster! What kind of room would you like to have in your home? Consult with your family. Maybe the remaining children in the home would love a game room to hang out with their friends in.
