Whether you're traveling to your destination with a car full of kids, or you're driving towards your new home with a friend and an iPod full of road trip tunes, you'll probably need to break up the time somehow. Try to tear your children away from their PSPs, turn off the music for an hour or so with your friend and play some games! Games like I Spy and Twenty Questions are classics, but there are a variety of other games to keep yourself, your family and your friends entertained on the drive.

Slug-a-Bug
Pure, unadulterated celebration of the classic piece of history that is the Volkswagen Beetle! The concept here is to keep track of how many of these cars you can spot on your drive. There are a few variations of this game, one of which makes the older (and more rare!) versions of the vehicle worth more points. You could also limit it to just the older versions or just the newer versions that you have to find.
Wondering where the “slug” in slug-a-bug comes from? In the original version, the person who finds a bug punches their friend next to them. Of course, this may not be a great idea for your kids so you may want to just keep score on a pad if you have the children in the car. You can also just instruct the kids to tap each other when a bug is found and the first one to 10 is the winner. This is a great way to keep you focused on the road and observe the halcyon hippie symbol the bug was represented.
Who Am I?
While this game is known by a variety of different names, the premise remains the same. Anyone who has ever asked their partner if their person has glasses or blonde hair in the classic board game Guess Who? will appreciate this one. Think of someone who you and everyone else in the car will know. You can play with well-known figures or people you personally know, but make sure everyone is clear first. The other participants will ask you questions based on the person's appearance. Does the person have dimples? What about long nails? Keep going until the person is guessed and everyone figures it out. This is a good game idea that doesn't involve paper or pencil – only your imagination!
